HEX and CMYK, explained

HEX

HEX is a compact way to write an sRGB color for websites and interface code. The pairs describe red, green, and blue from 00 to FF; the notation does not contain a print profile or physical ink recipe.

CMYK

CMYK describes process-print percentages, but the numbers only become press-specific when paired with an ICC profile, ink set, paper, and printing condition. The browser calculation here is a useful generic estimate, not a press separation.

What happens during this conversion?

HEX represents a six-digit web color, while CMYK represents cyan, magenta, yellow, and black print percentages. The calculator uses a standard mathematical path through sRGB. It does not read an embedded document profile, modify an uploaded file, or apply a printer-specific separation. That makes the answer predictable for everyday design work, but deliberately generic for production printing.

Some colors sit outside the range of another model or output device. Rounding can also make a converted value look slightly different when it is converted back. Treat the displayed result as a clean starting point, then test it in the software, profile, and medium that will actually be used.
