Contrast is a minimum, not a finish line.
WCAG AA requires a ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. AAA raises those thresholds to 7:1 and 4.5:1. Typography, weight, size, glare, and user vision also affect real readability.
