HSL and RGB, explained

HSL

HSL reorganizes an sRGB color into hue, saturation, and lightness. It is convenient for adjusting interface colors, but equal numeric changes do not always produce equal-looking changes to the eye.

RGB

RGB describes emitted screen light with red, green, and blue channels. This tool expects values from 0 to 255 and interprets them as standard sRGB, the common default for browsers and general digital artwork.

What happens during this conversion?

HSL represents hue, saturation, and lightness, while RGB represents red, green, and blue screen-light channels. The calculator uses a standard mathematical path through sRGB. It does not read an embedded document profile, modify an uploaded file, or apply a printer-specific separation. That makes the answer predictable for everyday design work, but deliberately generic for production printing.

Some colors sit outside the range of another model or output device. Rounding can also make a converted value look slightly different when it is converted back. Treat the displayed result as a clean starting point, then test it in the software, profile, and medium that will actually be used.
